Poland international Lewandowski has been in sensational scoring form since the turn of the year. Last season, he scored 41 goals in the German Bundesliga to break the long-standing record held by Bayern Munich and German football great Gerd Muller. Ex-Bayern striker Muller had scored 40 times on two occasions in the 70s. Poland national team skipper Lewandowski was able to set a new record for the most goals in a German Bundesliga season despite missing some games towards the end of last season. He missed a few weeks of football after sustaining a knee injury while on duty with Poland for their Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.

LEWANDOWSKI HITS TREBLE IN BIG WIN

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski continued his sensational scoring form in the league this season after his treble in the comeback win over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in what was the standout game of week 24 in the German Bundesliga. Poland national team player Robert Lewandowski scored a hattrick to help Bayern Munich to a 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich are the German champions and they had to do it the hard way to secure the three points at stake and move back to the German Bundesliga summit. Bayern Munich started the home game with Borussia Dortmund in second place as their spot at the summit was taken by RB Leipzig. RB Leipzig had moved one point clear of Bayern Munich before the Borussia Dortmund game following their 3-0 away win over Freiburg. Ex-Paris Saint Germain (PSG) player Christopher Nkunku gave the Bavarian giants a first half lead before second half goals from Alexander Sorloth and Emil Forsberg wrapped up the big victory for the Champions League campaigners. Bayern Munich were a long way from reclaiming their place at the top of the Bundesliga standings when they trailed 2-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund but they were able to bounce back with four goals, two apiece either side of the half-time break. Borussia Dortmund hitman ErlingHaaland scored the opening goal of the game as early as the second minute to give his team the lead before he added his brace seven minutes later. Poland striker Robert Lewandowski started the fightback by pulling one back for the Bavarian giants on 26 minutes before he levelled proceedings for the hosts just before the interval after he was successful from the spot. Leon Goretzka then scored a third Bayern Munich goal two minutes from time before Poland national team skipper Robert Lewandowski wrapped up the 4-2 win with his treble on the stroke of full-time. Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has now scored 31 goals in 23 league games and he needs 10 more goals from the remaining 10 league games to break the record of Gerd Muller. Muller scored 40 league goals almost five decades ago.

LEWANDOWSKI PASSES BUNDESLIGA LANDMARK WITH BRACE

Poland national team skipper Robert Lewandowski has passed 250 goals in the German Bundesliga after his brace in the slim win over VFL Wolfsburg on Wednesday night as he continued his good scoring record against the team from the Volkswagen Arena. Poland striker Robert Lewandowski helped Bayern Munich to recover from a goal down to beat Wolfsburg 2-1 at home.

Wolfsburg stunned Robert Lewandowski and his Bayern Munich teammates when they took the lead at the Allianz Arena as early as the fifth minute through Maximilian Philip. The Poland hitman added his brace five minutes into the second half and that proved to be the winning goal of the game for the Bavarian giants who were able to inflict the first defeat of the season on VFL Wolfsburg. Football: Poland lose 2-3 to Portugal in Nations League

Poland on Thursday lost 2-3 to Portugal in their second match of the new UEFA Nations League, a sobering home defeat that exposed the side’s frailties and left fans in low spirits. Genoa striker Krzysztof Piątek headed home a corner to put Poland 1-0 up in the 18th minute of the game in the southern Polish city of Chorzów, but Andre Silva equalized for Portugal from close range in the 31st.

An own goal from defender Kamil Glik after an unsuccessful sliding tackle handed Portugal the lead in the 42nd minute. Bernardo Silva sealed the victory for the visitors in the 52nd even though substitute Jakub Błaszczykowski slammed in a second goal for Poland from a cross in the 77th minute. The clash at Chorzów’s revamped Silesian Stadium marked the 100th international cap for Poland star striker Robert Lewandowski, who, however, failed to impress the crowd of around 55,000, Polish public broadcaster TVP said.

Poland draws against Italy

Poland managed to get a draw in the match against Italy in the new Nations League that is supposed to boost the attractiveness of friendly matches. In fact, Poland could have won the match if they did not concede a penalty in the closing stage of the game that allowed Italy to equalize and salvage a draw from the game.

This was the first game for the new Poland manager Jerzy Brzęczek and he will be happy with what he has shown in the game. Indeed the Poland players started the match the better and took control of the game against an Italy side that is also in a rebuilding phase.

Robert Lewandowski plays his football in Germany

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski plays his football in Germany, but he helped his national team keep their heads above the Germans in the race for the Euro 2016 qualification after scoring a hat-trick against Georgia in the 4-0 win.

Poland are the unlikely leaders in their Euro 2016 qualifying group, which also contains Germany and Scotland. They have a one-point advantage over the Germans with a couple of matches remaining. Finishing top of the group has its own advantage and Poland maintained this position with a convincing win over Georgia. This victory means that they can afford to relax in the upcoming game against Greece, which is a friendly.

The big test for the team will come in September when they travel to Germany in order to take on the Germans. They can now do so knowing that even a draw will be sufficient to maintain their position. Admittedly, a win against one of the minnows in the qualification group – Georgia – is unlikely to mean anything towards the potential of the team to do well in the final itself. However, with a striker like Lewandowski in their ranks manager Adam Nawałka will easily be thinking about a place in the knockout stages of the Euro 2016.
