Poland Go Down Fighting to Holland

 

Poland lost their opening Nations League match to the Dutch by a solitary goal. Playing in front of an empty stadium due to COVID-19 related restrictions, the Poles showed grit before losing to their more fancied opponents. This was an away match for them. It was the first time the national team of Poland took to the turf following the Coronavirus outbreak.


Played in a biosecure bubble in front of empty stands, the only goal of the match came from the boot of Steven Bergwijn. Poland’s best opportunity to hit the back of the net came in the first half of the game when a low cross from Kedziora saw Piatek connect it straight to the Dutch goalkeeper. In the last edition of the Nations League, they had finished at the bottom of their group which comprised Italy and Portugal. Their performance in the Euro qualifiers this year was good as they finished on top of the pool. Poland is currently 19th in the FIFA rankings.
