Lewandowski has been able to recover from the knee injury sustained while he was with Poland during the last international break. The Bayern Munich hitman returned to full training and he’s expected to be part of the squad for the trip to face Mainz 05 on Saturday.

Bayern have coped well without the quality of Lewandowski in the league and a win over Mainz 05 will hand the Bavarian giants another league title. They have won each of the last eight German Bundesliga titles on offer and they could seal a ninth straight league title with an away win over Mainz 05.

Poland striker Lewandowski sustained a knee injury while he was representing his country in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the European section at the end of last month. He picked up the injury in the home game against lowly Andorra.

The injury picked up in the one of the second round games in the abovementioned qualifiers forced Lewandowski to miss the defeat to England. Without the Bayern Munich striker, the Three Lions were able to beat Poland 2-1 at home courtesy the late goal from Manchester United centre back Harry Maguire.

At club level, Lewandowski missed the wins over RB Leipzig, VFL Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga plus the two legs with French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Without Lewandowski in their team, Bayern were eliminated by PSG via the away goals rule. Things might have been different if the Poland national team skipper was fit for at least one of the two games with PSG.
